Interesting day. Started the CSE conference with a session on DURC (dual use research of concern), which had more to do with terrorism than scientific publishing, but there is a distant link there for certain kinds of scientific journals.

Met friend Leanne, a former coworker and current Seattle resident, for a great lunch (Cafe Campagne for mushroom-potato soup, which was wonderful) and a nice leisurely visit. We dropped by the Seattle Art Museum on our way to a lecture by Bryan Smith, who as a producer/director for National Geographic films extreme sports/events. If you want to see some of what he has done, google "flying man national geographic" and take a look at The Making of the Man Who Can Fly. He was a very engaging speaker with great pictures and videos.

Back to CSE for another session, this one on incorporating continuing medical education into journal publishing using social media. The intent and aim of CME remains laudable (as with any profession's continuing education), but new requirements of evidence that educational programming actually affects patient outcomes is daunting, especially in an era of reduced funding.

Off to dinner with friends at Dahlia Lounge, yet another highly-praised Seattle restaurant.

    1. I am. The meeting ended an hour ago, and the drive starts tomorrow afternoon. Off to see the Chihuly exhibit at Seattle Center in the morning. Then two days in Coeur D'Alene before heading to Glacier National Park. After days of surprisingly nice weather in Seattle it has gotten quite rainy (not the usual drizzle) with temperatures in the 50s.
